Ceramic Youth Project was founded by students who are deeply passionate about the arts. We see that ceramics is a tool for many students to communicate their feelings and stories with the world. In hopes of making ceramics an accessible art to youth in the area, we aim to educate youth about clay and sculptural arts and raise funds for underfunded arts programs.
Ceramic Youth Project is an official 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Ceramic Youth Project was created by three teens in Greenwich, CT: Eesha, Naomi, and Emma. As students at Greenwich High School, we are very fortunate to have a generous budget for our arts program that allows us to create freely. But when we experienced budget cuts in the 2023-2024 year, we saw just how important it was that ceramics be allowed to flourish not just in our school, but in neighboring districts as well. We developed Ceramic Youth Project as a way to spread our love of ceramics and encourage others to pursue the art.
Eesha is a senior in the GHS class of 2025 and has been taking ceramics for the past two and a half years. She occasionally handbuilds, but truly enjoys wheel throwing. Recently, she has been gravitating towards building larger pieces, with her largest piece being a whopping 15 pounds! Most of her inspiration stems from prolific potters (Eric Landon and Kseniya Polyakova) and regions known for their high-quality ceramics, such as Jingdezhen, China. She loves using unique colors, mixing dip and brush glazes, and funky shapes to elevate her pieces. Her favorite tools are the wooden rib, steel rib, and pin tool.
Naomi is a senior in the GHS class of 2025. She has been taking ceramics class since her freshman year, and also takes summer courses outside of school. While she dabbles on the wheel, her loyalties lie to handbuilding and sculpture. She loves to create eerie and unconventional pieces. You can find her experimenting with textured, dynamic forms and a variety of different glazes. Her favorite project so far is a sculpture of a Medusa head with slithering snakes all over.
Emma is a senior in the GHS class of 2025 and has been taking ceramics there for three years. She loves to handbuild pieces with natural elements such as flowers, trees, vines, leaves, and lily pads. Her work can often be seen as more cartoonish, but recently Emma has been working on branching out. Much of her inspiration comes from museums like the MET and her dreams. Some of her favorite techniques are inlaying glaze and smoothing with water and a metal rib.
